Canadian Ambassador to the United States of America
Michael Wilson, now Canadian Ambassador to the United States of America, was Chairman of UBS Canada, one of Canada's largest managers of pension funds and other institutional investments.
Prior to July 2000, Mr. Wilson was Vice-Chairman & Director of RBC Dominion Securities Inc. He has held senior federal cabinet posts in Finance; and Industry, Science & Technology & International Trade in the Government of Canada. Mr. Wilson is a Director of BP p.l.c. and Manulife Financial. He has also been active in a number of community organizations in Canada and the United States and the Chair of the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships.
Michael's activities in the field of mental illness cover a number of organizations. He is currently Chairman of the Mental Health Implementation Taskforce for Toronto and Peel, an initiative under the provincial government to draw recommendations from the private sector on the implementation of mental health policy in the Province of Ontario. He is also Chairman of the NeuroScience Canada Foundation and Senior Chairman of the Business and Economic Roundtable on Addiction and Mental Health. Prior to his appointment to the Taskforce, he was quite active with the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health, acting as Chairman of the recent $10 million fundraising campaign which raised close to $11.5 million.
Mr. Wilson has spoken on many occasions on the topic on mental illness, focusing on the activities of the Taskforce, the impact of stigma as well as the burden of mental illness in the workplace.
