Advancing Concussion Care through Education, Scientific-Evidence and Community Support

University of Waterloo

Project Lead: Dr. Robyn Ibey

Project Purpose: The targeted outcome of this project was to bridge the gap between research and practice to create community awareness around best practices in identifying and treating sport-related concussions by creating educational videos of the current best practice guidelines.

About the project

This project: 1) utilized implementation science to encourage the use of sport-related concussion guidelines and promote compliance by clinicians (physicians, physiotherapists, chiropractors, athletic therapist, nurses, optometrists, neurologists), and 2) translated these guidelines to the public, while also provided a network of interdisciplinary practitioners in the community who are knowledgeable in this area.

This project has been implemented at the Centre for Community, Clinical and Applied Research Excellence (CCCARE) within the Department of Kinesiology at the University of Waterloo. CCCARE is a unique, multidisciplinary team of researchers, certified exercise specialists, clinical experts, graduate students and staff that strive to improve the overall health of individuals in the community through advanced research, educational opportunities, and progressive outreach programs. Through the University of Waterloo’s connections with the clinical community in both research and practice we are bringing practitioners together and highlighting expertise within the region.
