New Patient Handbook – Rehabilitation of Adults with Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI)

February 3, 2020

In 2016, ONF released the Clinical Practice Guideline for the Rehabilitation of Adults with Moderate to Severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Today, we are pleased to launch the patient version of this guideline!

Health care providers are encouraged to share this handbook with their patients as it provides evidence-based guidance to support the care and recovery of patients with sustained brain injury. With the help of this resource, patients will be able to better understand how, what and when care should be provided, streamlining visits with health care practitioners.

The patient handbook is divided into four sections:
1) Traumatic Brain Injury Rehabilitation
2) Assessment and Recovery
3) Road to Recovery
4) Reintegration and Participation

Each section contains a summary of the relevant guidelines as well as links to helpful resources for patients and their families. This document is based on the best practices and research evidence available, and was developed with input from experts and people with lived experience.
